The History of Rainbow Quilt Designs

Pinch 2My Grandfather, William B. Pinch, started the Rainbow Quilt Block Company (RQBC) more than 80 years ago at his home on Wichita Avenue in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a professional photographer but he also loved art and design. In over 40 years Grandpa created HST - Pinchnearly 1000 beautiful original quilt designs that have found their way into homes just like yours across the land. At the peak of his business in the 1930s and 1940s RQBC products were sold in many department stores in the United States. These products ranged from individual quilt blocks to complete quilt kits including all materials to embroider, appliqué, and assemble complete quilt tops. Grandpa, his brothers and nephews built numerous machines to support this large volume of business. But Grandpa always maintained personal correspondence with many of his customers.

From 1972 to 1991 my Mom, Verna R. Verna (216x292)(Pinch) Niemann continued her dad's business on a smaller scale from her home and business in Florida. Mom hand stamped the quilt patterns on fine grade muslin cloth like Grandpa had done before.

Amy NiemannFor years my wife, Amy, and I wanted to continue this family legacy but were hampered by time and resources. Randy NiemannSo today, in order to provide these same wonderful history-rich designs to the quilting world, Rainbow Quilt Designs will offer our collection of original Rainbow Quilt Block Company quilt patterns through the internet in digital format. This labor of love includes a great selection of patterns.  In the future we will strive to complete our entire collection.
